Fred Warner’s hope for a return to the San Francisco 49ers this postseason is gaining momentum and may not be as far-fetched as initially thought. The talented linebacker, a four-time All-Pro, suffered a significant injury, fracturing and dislocating his right ankle on October 12. Following surgery two days later, there were expectations that he might not return until the 2026 season.

However, Warner is making a determined effort to come back ahead of schedule. According to a source cited by NBC Sports Bay Area, there is a possibility that he could be available for the NFC Championship Game, should the 49ers secure a place in the playoffs.

General manager John Lynch recently discussed Warner’s progress, suggesting that while the timeline for recovery is optimistic given the initial prognosis, Warner’s work ethic and commitment to rehabilitation have raised hopes. “It would be well ahead of the original timeline we were given, but Fred has the ability to move the doctors because they’re going to put objective measurements out there…” Lynch said. He expressed confidence in Warner’s hard work, noting that it has prompted many to reconsider the feasibility of his return.

Currently, the 49ers, who hold an 11-4 record, are focused on securing home-field advantage and a first-round bye in the playoffs. With only two games left in the regular season—against the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks—time is of the essence in Warner’s pursuit.

The NFC Championship Game is slated for January 25, and Super Bowl 60 will take place on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium, the 49ers’ home ground. Lynch emphasized the remarkable effort Warner is putting in, stating, “He’s been attacking it every which way, and he’s making really good progress.”

The 49ers and their fans are holding onto a glimmer of hope that Warner’s determination could lead to a postseason return, adding a significant boost to the team’s chances as they aim for a deep playoff run.
