Could Darren Sproles Join the Broncos as a 2026 Coaching Intern?

The Denver Broncos are not only focused on their current season but are also making plans for the future, as former New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles considers joining the team as a coaching intern starting in 2026. Sproles, who was selected 140th overall by the San Diego Chargers in the 2005 draft, has had a storied career, including a Super Bowl win with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017.

Sproles, who played under Broncos head coach Sean Payton during his tenure with the Saints from 2011 to 2013, confirmed this development to Kay Adams during an episode of “Up & Adams.” He revealed, “Sean has called me about it, and I think I’m going to take him up on it. Because I feel like my next calling is to coach. I’m loving it,” referring to his recent experiences coaching high school football. While he has not officially accepted the offer, his interest indicates a strong likelihood of a future role with the Broncos.

Payton has expressed high regard for Sproles, suggesting that he would have placed him on last season’s roster over notable players like Drew Brees or Jimmy Graham. In an interview, Payton highlighted Sproles’ remarkable football IQ and unique playing style, noting, “There was something about freakin’ Darren Sproles… he would do something every time like, even something you’d never cover.”

The Broncos are also poised to benefit from Sproles’ expertise, particularly in nurturing running backs. He has expressed eagerness to work with Deuce Vaughn, a former Dallas Cowboys running back currently on the Broncos’ practice squad, noting that he sees a lot of potential in Vaughn. However, the team already boasts RJ Harvey, a rookie second-round draft pick whose playing style has drawn comparisons to Sproles. With remarkable statistics this season, including 205 rushing yards and four touchdowns, Harvey is eager to make his own mark in the league, inspired by the greats like Sproles.

The potential addition of Sproles to the Broncos coaching staff represents a significant opportunity for both Sproles and the organization, as they seek to enhance player development and build upon past successes in the running game. All parties involved stand to gain from this promising partnership.
