Francis Ford Coppola has been hospitalized in Rome, Italy, for a scheduled procedure with his longtime cardiologist, Dr. Andrea Natale. The acclaimed filmmaker, now 86 years old, is reportedly recovering well following the treatment. Representatives for Coppola have indicated that they will provide updates regarding his condition.
Coppola recently concluded a successful six-city tour across the United States to promote his film “Megalopolis,” culminating in a special screening and Q&A at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. During his appearance, he candidly reflected on life and loss, stating, “I always lived my life so that when I was at the moment approaching death, I wouldn’t say, ‘Oh, I wish I had done this and I wish I had done that.’ Instead, I say to myself, ‘I got to do this.’”
Before his hospitalization, Coppola spent time in Italy where he attended the Magna Graecia Film Festival and discussed plans for a new project in Calabria, which he mentioned during the festival’s screening of “Megalopolis.” He expressed his excitement about the new film, emphasizing that it will celebrate the beauty of the region and steer clear of themes related to the mafia, in contrast to his famous “Godfather” trilogy. “Calabria is a region very famous for its mafia, but that doesn’t interest me,” Coppola stated.
Though details about the upcoming project remain sparse, Coppola’s continued creativity and passion for filmmaking showcase his unwavering dedication to the art, providing his fans with hope for future cinematic ventures.
