Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg is listed as doubtful for the upcoming game against the Utah Jazz on Thursday night, as per the team’s latest injury report. Flagg, who was the top overall pick in the 2025 draft, sustained a left ankle sprain during Wednesday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets.

Head coach Jason Kidd revealed that Flagg initially injured his left foot in the previous game against the Brooklyn Nets but aggravated the injury when he landed awkwardly toward the end of the second quarter against the Nuggets. After taking a moment to grasp his ankle in pain, Flagg managed to return briefly to the game but was noticeably hindered. He did not participate in the second half and remained off the bench.

“He stepped on someone’s foot and so I think last game he twisted his ankle, too,” Kidd explained to the media. After evaluating Flagg’s condition, the team opted to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the game.

Despite this setback, Flagg has had a solid rookie season, appearing in 40 out of 41 games thus far. He is a leading candidate for Rookie of the Year, boasting impressive averages of 18.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.

Following the matchup against the Jazz on Thursday, the Mavericks are set to face the same team again in Dallas on Saturday, before embarking on a brief road trip to take on the New York Knicks on Monday. Fans are hopeful that Flagg can recover quickly and continue his impact on the court moving forward.
