WILMINGTON, N.C. – The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Lower Cape Fear Region each day since Friday, with Wilmington experiencing significant heat. Over the weekend, temperatures reached a high of 97 degrees, and nighttime temperatures remained above 80 degrees since Sunday. This streak of high temperatures is expected to change on Tuesday, as the passage of a cold front is forecasted to bring cooler daytime highs in the upper 80s and heat index values still in the 90s.
However, Wilmington’s streak of overnight lows above 70 degrees will continue, having persisted since June 4th—now tallying 49 days, just shy of the all-time record of 65 days set in 2020. Tonight’s forecast indicates a possible dip into the middle and lower 70s, but if it does not happen, it may be some time before temperatures drop below 70 again. This phenomenon raises the question of whether Wilmington could establish a new record.
As for moisture, rain chances are expected to rise due to an unstable atmosphere, leading to isolated to scattered heavy showers and storms. While rain chances may diminish later in the week, they are not entirely off the table.
In the Atlantic Basin, Invest 94-L is not projected to develop into a tropical system, as the environmental conditions are not favorable for its growth. The outlook for additional storms this week remains low.
