Changes are on the horizon for Central Florida’s weather as a late-season cool front is expected to arrive this weekend, bringing a shift from the typical summertime conditions.
On Friday, storms are likely to develop, particularly in areas along the I-4 corridor and northwest of Orlando. As the day progresses into the afternoon and evening, conditions will continue to be favorable for storm development, with storms moving east-southeast at speeds of 15 to 25 mph. Residents should prepare for heavy rain, with localized amounts of up to 2 inches, as well as frequent lightning, gusty winds reaching 40 to 50 mph, and possibly small hail. There’s even a slight chance some storms may escalate to produce wind gusts nearing 60 mph, prompting the Storm Prediction Center to issue a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for severe storms across the region.
In addition to the storm risk, the heat will play a significant role on Friday, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s, creating a sweltering feel of around 100 degrees due to humidity.
As we move into Saturday, more showers and thunderstorms are expected as the cool front progresses through Central Florida. Forecast models indicate storms beginning to move from north to south throughout the morning and into lunchtime. The potential for stronger storms with heavy rain and gusty winds is present as the conditions remain unstable. By early afternoon, most storm activity should decrease, with temperatures staying cooler than usual, in the upper 80s, and humidity levels beginning to drop overnight.
Saturday afternoon will witness the storms pushing towards the Treasure Coast, allowing drier air to fill regions north of that area. Residents can look forward to a more comfortable Sunday, characterized by lower humidity and average temperatures in the upper 80s.
Looking ahead to next week, while the stormy weather pattern will persist, it is expected to calm down somewhat, with rain chances decreasing to between 20-40% and daytime highs in the low to mid-90s.
This change in weather brings a much-needed break from the oppressive heat and humidity that has characterized the summer months, offering residents a chance to enjoy more pleasant conditions.
