Beau DeMayo, the creator of “X-Men ’97,” is facing controversy following Disney’s announcement that he was fired due to allegations of misconduct. DeMayo’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, issued a statement criticizing Disney’s practices. He argued that while the company promotes a family-friendly image, it allegedly attempts to include questionable clauses in contracts to silence employees and customers.
This statement follows Disney’s communication about DeMayo’s termination and the decision to remove his credits from the second season of the series. DeMayo had claimed on social media that his removal was linked to his posts supporting gay pride. In response, Disney stated that an investigation revealed DeMayo had committed “egregious” misconduct, although they did not provide details on the nature of the allegations. A source indicated that sexual misconduct was involved in the initial firing, and further breaches of his separation agreement led to the removal of his credits.
Freedman emphasized that Disney’s strategies are repetitive and illegal, claiming that when confronted, the company resorts to blame-shifting and misinformation to distract from the truth. He asserted that he has substantial evidence to support these claims and mentioned that many clients are prepared to speak out against Disney’s practices.
DeMayo was let go in March, shortly before the premiere of “X-Men ’97” on Disney+. He had worked on both the first and second seasons of the critically acclaimed animated series, which recently earned an Emmy nomination for best animated program.
