MID-MICHIGAN – Consumers Energy has announced that teams are actively working to restore power to all Michigan customers impacted by the recent ice storm, aiming for full restoration by sunrise Saturday morning. The utility company is also gearing up for high winds forecasted for early next week.
Norm Kapala, an Officer in Charge for restoration at Consumers Energy, expressed gratitude for the community’s patience during the cleanup process. He emphasized the importance of caution for drivers navigating ice-covered roads and assured that crews are taking all necessary precautions for a swift and safe restoration.
Customers of Consumers Energy can track outage statuses through the company’s online outage center. Additionally, they can receive alerts and updates on restoration times by texting ‘REG’ to 232273 or by visiting the company’s alert page.
Looking ahead, Consumers Energy is preparing for another storm anticipated on Monday, Dec. 29, which may bring winds reaching up to 50 mph. Kapala noted the unpredictable nature of Michigan winters and reiterated the company’s commitment to restoring power and preparing for future weather events.
To promote safety during these challenging conditions, Consumers Energy has shared the following safety tips:
– Be mindful of crews working along roadsides; slow down or stop if necessary to allow safe passage.
– Maintain a distance of at least 25 feet from downed power lines and report any unmonitored lines by contacting 9-1-1 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050.
– Refrain from using generators inside enclosed spaces such as garages or basements to prevent the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
