A significant water main break on February 11th around 11:30 p.m. has caused substantial disruptions in gas and water service around the 300 and 400 blocks of West 10th Avenue and a section of Colwell Lane in Conshohocken. Nearly 100 properties are affected by the incident, leading local authorities to advise residents to avoid the area as road closures are in effect for safety and repair efforts.

The break, which led to the formation of a sinkhole, has not only disrupted water service but has also impacted a PECO natural gas line. Teams from Aqua and PECO are currently on the scene to conduct repairs. Initially estimated to last between four to 12 hours, the anticipated disruption may now extend into Friday, February 13th, as per the latest update from the Borough of Conshohocken.

To support those affected, a warming center has been set up at the Community Center located at the Fellowship House. The center allows residents to stay warm and charge their devices while repairs are underway, although it is scheduled to close on Thursday evening at 9:00 p.m., prompting those using it to arrange for overnight accommodations.

The borough has provided detailed updates, indicating that remediation efforts may extend further into the week, and any changes to the opening hours of the warming center will be announced as needed. The current state of Colwell Lane remains uncertain due to ongoing diggings to determine the depth of the sinkhole, and while it is currently open with flaggers present, it may be subject to closure later today.

Residents are encouraged to utilize alternative routes, with suggestions to use West 6th Avenue or West 11th Avenue to access downtown Conshohocken, and Brook Road for those heading towards Ridge Pike. The borough office is available at 610-828-1092 for any assistance residents may require. Updates will continue to be provided as more information becomes available, ensuring that affected residents are well-informed during this challenging time.
