Country music artist Conner Smith is facing a misdemeanor charge related to a tragic accident that resulted in the death of a 77-year-old pedestrian in downtown Nashville last month. The 24-year-old musician was cited for failure to yield the right of way resulting in death, a Class A misdemeanor, following the incident that occurred on June 8, claiming the life of Dorothy Dobbins.

Authorities report that Dobbins was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk on 3rd Avenue North when she was struck by Smith’s Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Witnesses indicated that Smith acted quickly to assist Dobbins until emergency responders arrived. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Metro Police indicated there was no evidence of impairment or distraction on Smith’s part during the incident. While he was not arrested, a booking appearance is scheduled for August 7.

Smith’s attorney, Worrick G. Robinson IV, expressed that Conner is deeply thankful for the thorough investigation conducted by the Metro Nashville Police Department and has been fully cooperative throughout the process. He emphasized that Smith’s thoughts are with Dobbins’ family and that he is committed to supporting pedestrian safety initiatives in her honor.

In light of the accident, changes have already been implemented at the crash site to improve safety, including the installation of new crosswalk signage and the removal of a tree that obstructed visibility.

This incident raises important conversations about pedestrian safety in urban settings. The measures taken to enhance visibility and safety are steps in the right direction, underscoring the community’s commitment to preventing future tragedies.
