Conduent, a prominent American business services vendor, is facing significant scrutiny after confirming a massive data breach that impacted over 10.5 million individuals across various states in the U.S. The breach, which was detected in January, saw hackers accessing Conduent’s systems from October 21, 2024, until January 13, 2025.

The compromised data includes sensitive information such as names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical records, and health insurance details. This incident now ranks as the eighth largest healthcare-related data breach in U.S. history, as reported by Red94.

Following the revelation of the breach, Conduent has incurred around $25 million in direct response costs. The company disclosed cash disbursements of $9 million through September 2025, with an additional $16 million projected to be released by the first quarter of 2026.

The Texas Attorney General’s office has identified that over 4 million residents of Texas were affected. Additionally, the breach impacted around 1 million customers in Oregon and 200,000 in Montana, among others. Despite ongoing investigations, further details regarding the breach remain limited.

Conduent is also facing multiple class action lawsuits, with plaintiffs alleging that the company failed to secure sensitive healthcare information adequately. Analysts estimate that the total costs for Conduent could surpass $50 million, accounting for legal fees, settlements, and ongoing remediation efforts. The notification process to inform affected customers has also placed a considerable financial and operational burden on the company.

As part of their response, Conduent is providing complimentary credit monitoring services for three years through Kroll. Affected individuals are encouraged to utilize these services and to monitor their credit reports for any activity that appears suspicious. Moreover, they should consider placing fraud alerts or a credit freeze with the major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion—to safeguard against unauthorized account openings.

Despite the challenges posed by the data breach, Conduent is taking steps to mitigate the fallout and emphasize the importance of customer protection in the wake of this significant incident.
