Firefighters have successfully extinguished a significant fire at a condominium complex located at 4502 Gaston Avenue in East Dallas, which erupted on Saturday afternoon. The Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) department confirmed that around 50 firefighters were deployed to tackle the blaze after responding to emergency calls around 2:41 p.m.
Witnesses reported heavy flames visible from a third-floor balcony as the fire spread rapidly to the roof of the three-story building. Preston Colomrito, one of the onlookers, shared his experience, stating, “I saw heavy flames coming through the roof, multiple people running.” He emphasized that the prompt action of the firefighters likely prevented the situation from escalating further.
Due to the fire’s quick progression, additional firefighting units were called to the scene. Fortunately, the fire was declared extinguished by 3:56 p.m. DFR officials confirmed a successful evacuation, including a blind resident, although the total number of affected units has not been detailed. The fire caused significant damage primarily to the top floor of the complex.
Two of the firefighters involved in the operation were taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons but are reported to be stable and expected to recover fully. For residents like Stefan Nelson, who lives near where the fire broke out, the event was a distressing déjà vu. Nelson remarked, “It’s my second fire I’ve been through… I went through one when I was in Duncanville,” highlighting the emotional toll such incidents can take.
While the damage is unfortunate, the swift response of the emergency personnel undoubtedly helped mitigate what could have been a far more devastating outcome, reminding the community of the importance of preparedness and quick action in emergency situations.
