The Knoxville Police Department, in collaboration with Young-Williams Animal Center, is seeking assistance from the public regarding an investigation into a potential animal cruelty incident. On Monday morning, officers responded to reports from the parking lot at 809 E. Emerald Ave., where they discovered two terrier mixes that had been abandoned.
Tragically, one of the dogs was found deceased with a bag tied over its head, while the other dog was alive and showed no visible injuries. However, a second bag similar to the one found on the deceased dog was also located on the scene. Efforts by the officers to locate the dogs’ owner were unsuccessful.
Following the incident, Young-Williams Animal Center released information stating that the living dog was taken to their facility and has since been evaluated by a veterinarian. According to CEO Janet Testerman, this dog remains under the center’s care as they work to address its needs.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about this case to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165, allowing for an anonymous tip to help bring justice for these animals.
This incident highlights the ongoing need for animal welfare awareness and reinforces the importance of community involvement in reporting animal cruelty.
