Presales for the commemorative 250th Anniversary U.S. Army 2025-W Proof American Silver Eagle coin are set to begin today, June 13, at noon ET from the United States Mint. This special edition coin, minted at the U.S. Mint’s West Point facility and crafted from one ounce of .999 fine silver, features a unique privy mark honoring the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary on June 14. The mintage is capped at 100,000 coins.
The new Silver Eagle showcases the same specifications and iconic imagery as the standard annual proof Silver Eagle, which was released in January 2025. The obverse, or heads side, displays the classic “Walking Liberty” design by Adolph A. Weinman, an image that has historical significance dating back to its original use on half dollars from 1916 to 1947. This design illustrates Liberty in a dynamic pose, surrounded by the American flag and holding laurel and oak branches, symbolizing peace and strength. The Mint updated this design in 2021 using advanced techniques to pay homage to Weinman’s original artistry.
On the obverse, the inscriptions read “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2025,” with the distinctive privy mark featuring elements of the U.S. Army seal located to the right of Liberty. The coin’s reverse design, introduced in 2021 and created by artist Emily Damstra, depicts an eagle in flight, clutching an oak branch – a change from the previous heraldic eagle design by John Mercanti that had been in place since the coin series began in 1986. This side displays inscriptions that include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
Each coin also features a reeded edge variation for anti-counterfeiting purposes.
The ordering process for the 250th Anniversary Silver Eagles will be handled directly via the U.S. Mint’s American Eagle product page, where the coin is priced at $105, reflecting a $10 increase over this year’s standard proof Silver Eagle, which has already sold over 265,950 units as of June 8. Due to high demand, there is a household order limit of one for the first 24 hours. Shipments for the new coins are slated to commence on July 29.
In addition to the U.S. Army edition, collectors can look forward to three other limited-edition 2025-W Proof American Silver Eagles, each featuring distinct privy marks in honor of the Navy and Marine Corps anniversaries, to be released later this year.
The introduction of these limited-edition coins not only honors the rich history of the U.S. Army but also offers a unique keepsake for collectors and enthusiasts, reflecting America’s ongoing appreciation for its military heritage.
