Michael David McKee, the former spouse of Monique Tepe, faces two counts of murder concerning the tragic deaths of Monique and her husband, Spencer Tepe. The couple was discovered shot in their Weinland Park residence on December 30, leaving behind their two young children, who were found unharmed.

Authorities identified McKee as a suspect after tracing a vehicle seen near the Tepe home at the time of the incident to him in Illinois. The 39-year-old, who is a vascular surgeon based in Chicago, had been married to Monique Tepe from 2015 until their divorce in 2017. He is currently in custody at the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois as he awaits extradition to Ohio.

On January 10, Columbus police lodged an arrest warrant against McKee, resulting in his booking into the facility shortly before noon. He is scheduled for a hearing on January 12, anticipated to be related to the extradition process that will facilitate his return to Ohio to contend with the charges.

The deaths of Monique, aged 39, and Spencer, aged 37, occurred just weeks after they celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary. They lived on North 4th Street in Weinland Park, and officials reported that there appeared to be no forced entry into their home, nor were there any indications of a robbery.

Detectives revealed they pinpointed McKee as a suspect through surveillance footage showing a person near the Tepe home during the early hours of December 30, which was when the couple is believed to have been killed. The investigation led authorities to a vehicle owned by McKee that matched sightings around the time of the incident.

Michael David McKee attended Ohio State University for both his undergraduate studies and medical school. He holds active surgical licenses in Illinois and California, although his license in Nevada has lapsed as of mid-2025. His professional history does not indicate any disciplinary actions, and he has maintained a clean criminal record aside from minor traffic violations.

Concerning his connection to Monique, records illustrate that the couple married in August 2015, but separated and finalized their divorce by June 2017 without any evident hostility toward one another. During the divorce proceedings, a mutual restraining order was issued, which is customary to manage financial and personal matters during such legal separations.

As the legal proceedings advance, McKee will remain in Illinois until extradition to Ohio is completed. Upon his return, he will face a hearing in Franklin County Municipal Court concerning bond arrangements before the case proceeds to a grand jury for potential indictment and additional charges.

While the circumstances surrounding these deaths are tragic, there remains hope for justice to be served for Monique and Spencer Tepe, as their families and community seek closure in this difficult time.
