In recent discussions, experts have pointed out that the absence of goalkeeper ‘Chiquito’ is not significant, as he has yet to make a meaningful impact with the Águilas.
The Columbus Crew has become one of the most prolific teams in matches against Liga MX clubs over the past year and a half. As they prepare to face Club América in the Campeones Cup, the Crew aims to secure their second title in just two months, having recently won the Leagues Cup 2024 and the MLS Cup in 2023.
The yellow and black squad has showcased an impressive and attacking style of play, often defeating their Mexican rivals. This Wednesday, they will compete against the Águilas at Lower.com Field.
Given Columbus Crew’s recent matchups against Mexican teams, an interesting question arises: What position would the Crew hold if they were part of Liga MX?
According to Transfermarkt, the Columbus Crew’s roster is valued at $61 million, making them the fourth most valuable team in MLS. In contrast, Inter Miami leads the pack with a valuation of $108 million.
If the Crew were to play in Liga MX, they would not rank among the top four teams but would instead occupy the seventh position. Club América tops the Mexican league with a roster valuation of $114.3 million.
Following América are Monterrey and Tigres, valued at $96.5 million and $81.5 million, respectively. Other Mexican teams, including Toluca, Chivas, and Cruz Azul, also possess higher valuations than the Crew. In this hypothetical scenario, Columbus would barely surpass Pachuca, who defeated them in last season’s Concacaf Champions Cup final. Pachuca’s market value stands at $51.76 million, having lost $11 million following the transfer of Erick Sánchez, sold to América for nearly $10 million.
Juan Camilo ‘Cucho’ Hernández leads the Crew in valuation at $14.5 million. The 25-year-old Colombian has been a key player in the squad’s success, attracting interest from clubs like Elche in Spain and Watford in the English Championship.
If Hernández were to play in Liga MX, he would be regarded as the most valuable player at $14.5 million, followed closely by Juan Brunetta, Erick Sánchez, and Sergio Canales, all valued at $11.2 million.
