Colts vs. Jaguars: Can Injuries Hinder Indianapolis’ Quest for a Rare Win?

The Indianapolis Colts face a challenging matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars today in NFL Week 5, as quarterback Anthony Richardson and center Ryan Kelly join a list of key players sidelined due to injuries. Running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle), cornerback Kenny Moore II (hip), and defensive end Kwity Paye (quadriceps) have also been ruled out. Both Richardson and Kelly were downgraded to doubtful just before the game.

Rookie Tanor Bortolini will take over as center, snapping the ball to veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who will hand off to running backs Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson. Bortolini delivered a strong performance in his debut last week, while Flacco connected for two touchdown passes.

On the Jaguars’ side, the injury report included pass rusher Josh Hines-Allen (concussion), safety Darnell Savage (quadriceps), and linebacker Devin Lloyd (knee), all of whom are active. However, tight end Evan Engram (hamstring) will not play.

Inactives for the Colts include: RB Jonathan Taylor, QB Anthony Richardson, C Ryan Kelly, CB Kenny Moore II, DE Kwity Paye, WR Anthony Gould, and OL Blake Freeland. The Jaguars will be without TE Evan Engram, S Daniel Thomas, LB Yasir Abdullah, DE Myles Cole, and OL both Javon Foster and Cole Van Lanen, as well as DT Jordan Jefferson.

The weather forecast for Jacksonville indicates continued rain throughout the day, with temperatures expected to be in the upper 70s.

The Colts have struggled in Jacksonville, having last secured a victory there in 2014. They have lost their last three matchups at this venue by an average of 18 points.
