Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson exited the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first half due to a hip injury after taking two hard hits. Richardson initially sustained the injury during a 14-yard run in the first quarter and briefly returned to the field before being sidelined for the remainder of the game. Colts head coach Shane Steichen decided to prevent Richardson from playing any further after he expressed a desire to continue.
Richardson described the injury as not serious, stating, “Feeling a little sore…I think I’m going to be good.” He acknowledged that the pain impacted his mobility, preventing him from performing at his usual level of acceleration.
Despite the setback, Richardson started the game strong, leading an opening drive that culminated in a touchdown run by Jonathan Taylor. He completed 3-of-4 passes before exiting, including a 32-yard completion to Michael Pittman Jr. Steichen praised Richardson’s performance, noting he was “on fire” early in the game.
With Richardson out, veteran quarterback Joe Flacco stepped in and helped steer the Colts to a 27-24 victory, marking the Steelers’ first loss of the season. Flacco completed 16 of 26 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns, thriving in the high-pressure situation.
Taylor also left the game late with an ankle injury but reported that it was not serious, expressing optimism about his health going forward.
