Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson took two hard hits during the first half of the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and exited with a hip injury. After sustaining the injury during a 14-yard run early in the first quarter, he initially returned to the game but had to leave again following another run. Coach Shane Steichen ultimately decided not to send Richardson back out on the field after he expressed a desire to return.

Following the game, Richardson shared that his injury was not severe, stating, “Feeling a little sore… Just a little sore.” He explained that the pain from the hit limited his mobility and acceleration, leading to the decision to sit out for the rest of the match. Despite his early exit, Richardson commended his teammates for securing a 27-24 victory over the Steelers, marking Pittsburgh’s first loss of the season.

Richardson started the game strong, leading a 70-yard opening drive that culminated in a touchdown from Jonathan Taylor, which was the first opening-drive touchdown against the Steelers since last season. He completed three passes for 40 yards before his injury.

Steichen praised Richardson’s performance, while the second-year quarterback accepted the decision to stay off the field after his injury. Richardson’s history with injuries raised concerns about his durability, as he has missed parts of three of the eight games he has started, including last season when he suffered a sprained shoulder injury.

In Richardson’s absence, veteran quarterback Joe Flacco stepped in to lead the team, completing 16 of 26 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Flacco noted that it took him some time to settle down after being called to play unexpectedly. Throughout the game, he effectively managed crucial drives, including one where he completed all three passes on third downs.

In addition, running back Jonathan Taylor left the game late in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury but reassured fans that it was not serious. “I’m feeling pretty good… We came out with the win, so I’m excited to attack this week,” he said.
