A Colorado dog named Nix is set to make a joyful appearance in the much-anticipated Puppy Bowl 2026, a charming event that highlights the benefits of shelter adoption while engaging viewers with a playful football competition. This heartwarming spectacle takes place annually just before the Super Bowl, and this year marks the 22nd iteration of the event.

The Puppy Bowl will feature an amazing lineup of 150 adoptable pups from 72 shelters spanning the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the British Virgin Islands. The event encourages potential pet owners to choose adoption from shelters over purchasing from breeders. Referee Dan Schachner returns for his 15th year to oversee the playful antics on the field.

This year introduces an exciting new twist with a halftime exhibition game for senior dogs, featuring Team Oldies and Team Goldies, bringing even more joy to the event. Viewers can expect an engaging broadcast, complete with segments showcasing adoptable puppies, lively cheer squads, and even playful kittens observing from a skybox. Play-by-play commentary will be provided by sportscasters Steve Levy and Taylor Rocks.

Nix, representing the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Springs, is poised to charm the audience with his performance. The shelter enthusiastically stated, “Nix is guaranteed to steal hearts on the big stage… he’s ready to show off his skills and represent his namesake with tail wags and touchdowns.” As the only dog from Colorado participating, expectations are high for Nix to leave a lasting impression.

Puppy Bowl 2026 will air live on Sunday, February 8, at 12 p.m. MT, with a special kickoff show beginning an hour earlier. Viewers can catch the event on multiple platforms including Animal Planet, Discovery, TBS, truTV, HBO Max, and Discovery+.

The caring preparation for the pups is led by Victoria Schade, the show’s lead puppy trainer, who has been ensuring the safety and happiness of the animals for over 20 years. Her invaluable role includes training the puppies to perform delightful antics on command while keeping an eye on their well-being. Schade’s dedication has made her a cherished figure within the Puppy Bowl community.

With Nix and other lovable pups set to take center stage, Puppy Bowl 2026 promises to be an exciting celebration of companionship, love, and the joys of adopting shelter dogs. Audiences can look forward to a heartwarming event that emphasizes the importance of animal welfare and the joy these furry companions bring into our lives.
