Colorado football is looking ahead to the 2026 season under the leadership of head coach Deion Sanders, who recently conducted the Buffaloes’ first meeting of the year. Sanders, who has welcomed 42 incoming transfers to the program, is implementing strict team protocols to foster discipline and unity among the players, as highlighted by Well Off Media.
One of Sanders’ notable directives addresses the attire of players transferring from other schools. He made it clear that wearing merchandise from a former team within the facilities is unacceptable. “Don’t wear your old team’s gear in this facility,” Sanders stated. He emphasized the importance of loyalty to Colorado, likening it to a partner displaying belongings from a previous relationship, which he termed disrespectful.
In addition to the clothing regulations, Sanders outlined several other important rules emphasizing professionalism within the team. He prohibited profanity outside the team meeting room and banned cellphones, food, and drinks during meetings. Moreover, he underscored the need for treating women with respect, insisting that female staff members be addressed as “Miss.”
As Sanders embarks on his fourth season as the head coach, the Colorado football program has seen significant changes. After a challenging 1-11 record in 2022, Sanders turned the team around to achieve a 4-8 record the following year. The 2024 season marked a peak for the Buffaloes, who finished 9-3 and secured the No. 25 position in the Associated Press poll, aided by standout performances from Travis Hunter, who won the Heisman Trophy.
However, following the loss of several key players to the NFL, including Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the team faced challenges in the 2025 season, finishing with a 3-9 record. Despite this setback, there is optimism surrounding the program as Sanders continues to build a solid foundation and instill a culture of respect and professionalism among his players. The upcoming season offers an opportunity for growth as the team adapts to new challenges and aims for a brighter future.
