On Wednesday, July 2, head coach Ángelo Marsiglia has one final opportunity to refine the details of the Colombian women’s national team as they prepare for the Copa América. The team is set to face Mexico in their second friendly match at 6:45 p.m., broadcasted on RCN HD2 and Caracol HD2.
Colombia is coming off a goalless draw against Mexico in their first outing, where missed chances highlighted the need for improvement in finishing. “The balance has been very good; I believe we have grown a bit in concentration. However, we must improve our finishing and continue to strengthen all the aspects where we still need work,” said winger Wendy Bonilla.
With key players such as Mayra Ramírez, Linda Caicedo, and Catalina Usme in the lineup, the national team is aiming for a victory to build confidence ahead of their tournament debut on July 16 against Venezuela in Group B, which also includes Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay.
Marsiglia acknowledged Mexico as one of the strongest teams in Concacaf, noting their significant growth recently. “This match will be very beneficial for us in this process as we head towards the Copa América,” he commented prior to the doubleheader.
The coaching staff conducted a training session lasting 1 hour and 14 minutes at the Matamoros Stadium in Cuernavaca, Morelos, with the entire squad present to evaluate performances and finalize the roster.
The Copa América Femenina is set to commence on Saturday, July 12, in Ecuador, continuing until August 2.
As the Colombian team prepares for this prestigious tournament, hopes are high for their performance, as they continue to develop and strengthen their capabilities on the international stage.
