Collin Morikawa’s Caddie Shuffle: What’s Next for the Star Golfer?

DETROIT — Collin Morikawa’s experiment with caddie Joe Greiner has come to an end. Morikawa is set to compete this week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and confirmed to Golfweek that they parted ways shortly before the event’s pro-am. This week, he is being assisted by KK Limbhasut, a former college teammate from Cal-Berkeley who is stepping in on an interim basis.

Morikawa, who has enjoyed a successful career with six Tour wins and currently ranks fifth in the world, expressed that although both he and Greiner are talented in their respective roles, they simply were not aligned in their day-to-day collaboration. “Just because two people are great at what they do doesn’t mean we’re going to be great together,” he explained during a pre-tournament press conference. This change comes after parting ways with his long-time caddie J.J. Jakovac in April.

Morikawa’s performances with Greiner, though consistent in making cuts, have not yielded top finishes, with his best results being T-17. His recent tournament appearances have included a T-50 at the PGA Championship and a T-23 finish at the Masters. Additionally, he has been contemplating a possible putter change to enhance his performance on the greens.

With Limbhasut caddying for this weekend’s tournament, Morikawa remains optimistic as he continues to evaluate his long-term options for caddying, particularly looking ahead to the upcoming British Open, a tournament he previously won.

Morikawa recognizes the significance of the caddie-player relationship in professional golf, noting that they often spend more time together than with anyone else. “It’s a process that I’m going through,” he remarked, indicating his careful approach to finding the right fit going forward.

As the highest-ranked player at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, where he previously lost in a playoff, hopes remain high for Morikawa to reclaim past glory and thrive in the upcoming competition. His dedication and proactive mindset in reassessing his game and partnerships signal a positive outlook for his future endeavors on the golf course.
