Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper effortlessly rekindled their lively chemistry during CNN’s “New Year’s Eve Live” celebration on Tuesday. The two best friends engaged in playful banter and embraced the festivities with a few drinks to kick off the new year.

Cohen excitedly introduced tequila shots at the beginning of each hour, enticing Cooper to join in. While Cooper, known for being more conservative with his drinking, managed the first shot well, the second had him gasping for breath, adding to the evening’s amusement.

Their light-hearted camaraderie continued throughout the broadcast as they shared anecdotes about uncontrollable laughter during breaks and even FaceTimed with Hoda Kotb, who was hosting NBC’s New Year’s Eve special, “A Toast to 2024.”

During the show, they hosted a whimsical costume contest featuring creative 2024 pop culture characters in front of their Madame Tussauds wax figures, which had Cooper laughing uncontrollably. Notable costumes included a pygmy hippopotamus and a sad Glasgow Oompa Loompa, showcasing the duo’s fun spirit.

In another light moment, Roy Wood Jr., host of CNN’s “Have I Got News For You,” made an appearance but humorously declined a drink, referencing the network’s past with his comment on a former colleague’s departure.

As the night progressed, even esteemed actor Ralph Fiennes joined in on the fun, sharing a shot and humorously reciting a popular meme line, highlighting the blend of humor and sophistication throughout the evening’s festivities.

This marked the eighth year that Cohen and Cooper came together to host this vibrant New Year’s Eve event, which also included appearances from celebrities like Amy Sedaris, Jon Hamm, and Ziwe. To ring in 2025, country singer Mickey Guyton performed John Lennon’s “Imagine” just before the iconic ball drop, culminating an enjoyable night filled with laughter and camaraderie.

This joyful event showcased not just the friendship between Cohen and Cooper, but also the welcoming atmosphere of live television as they shared laughs with both viewers and guests alike. As the new year begins, it’s a reminder of the happiness and connection that can come from shared experiences and celebrations.
