Deion Sanders, known as “Coach Prime,” is embracing change this offseason as he adjusts to life without his sons, Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, who have embarked on their NFL journeys. Shedeur was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round, while Shilo signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite his family’s transition, Coach Sanders remains committed to reviving the Colorado Buffaloes football program, a mission he began upon taking the head coaching position.
To fill his time away from the field, Sanders has taken up tennis, sharing his enthusiasm on Instagram. He expressed his determination to improve, humorously referring to himself as “PRIME BLACKENROE,” in a nod to the tennis legend Boris Becker. Sanders candidly mentioned his physical challenges, declaring, “I’m working with 8 toes and a lot of pain,” yet his competitive spirit remains undeterred.
In addition to his tennis pursuits, Sanders continues to build the Buffaloes. He successfully recruited five-star quarterback Julian Lewis, recently enrolled from USC, who participated in the team’s spring game, marking his entry into college football. Furthermore, Sanders has added NFL great Marshall Faulk to his coaching staff as the running backs coach to enhance the team’s performance.
Under Sanders’ leadership, the Buffaloes finished the 2024 season with a strong 9-4 record, demonstrating a notable improvement from his first season where they ended 4-8. This upward trajectory reflects Sanders’ successful strategy to strengthen the squad, particularly focusing on improving the offensive line, which had previously hindered the team’s progress.
Coach Prime’s journey at Colorado is still unfolding, and his blend of innovative coaching and newfound interests keeps the spirit of competition alive in both his professional and personal life. The future looks promising as he aims to continue leading the Buffaloes to greater achievements.
