Former President Bill Clinton addressed the crowd on the third night of the Democratic National Convention, expressing gratitude to President Biden for his leadership and commending Vice President Kamala Harris while highlighting the importance of the upcoming election in November.
“I won’t beat around the bush. I am too old to gild the lily,” Clinton, now 78, remarked, before adding humorously, “But I’m still younger than Donald Trump,” which drew enthusiastic applause from attendees.
Clinton clarified the stakes for the 2024 election, stating, “We have a clear choice: ‘We The People’ versus ‘Me, Myself, and I,’” referencing the convention’s theme for that evening.
Reflecting on his own presidency, Clinton stated, “Not a day goes by without gratitude for the opportunity the American people gave me to serve as one of the 45 presidents. Even during tough times, you can still create positive outcomes.”
He emphasized Harris’s qualifications, declaring her as the only candidate with the vision, experience, temperament, will, and joy necessary to lead the nation.
Clinton also acknowledged the impactful speech his wife, Hillary Clinton, delivered at the DNC’s opening night. Hillary used her platform to endorse Harris, marking a significant moment of solidarity among women nominated by major parties for the presidency.
Clinton’s remarks highlighted the urgency and choices facing voters in the upcoming election.
