Clinton Champions Harris: A Call for Unity at DNC

In a significant moment at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was the first woman to secure a major party nomination for president, voiced her support for Kamala Harris. Clinton highlighted Harris’s “character, experience, and vision to lead us forward.”

Entering the stage to the song “Brave” by Sara Bareilles, Clinton emphasized the importance of unity and progress, praising President Biden as a “true patriot” and expressing gratitude for his service as the country embarks on “a new chapter.”

Clinton posed a thought-provoking question, stating, “There is always a choice. Do we push forward or pull back? Come together as ‘We The People’ or split into us versus them?” She underscored the significance of this decision in the upcoming election.

Reflecting on the historical contributions of women in American politics, Clinton referenced her own campaign and the “glass ceiling” that still exists. She also noted Harris’s background as a prosecutor, quoting her inaugural courtroom words: “Kamala Harris, for the people.”

Clinton contrasted Harris’s values with those of former President Donald Trump, arguing that he would never grasp the meaning of service. During her address, the crowd chanted “Lock him up” in reference to Trump, who faces 34 felony counts in New York—though it is unlikely he will face incarceration. Clinton did not address the chants, unlike Harris, who has previously dismissed similar sentiments at her rallies.

Concluding her speech, Clinton left the stage to the empowering “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten, a song that was also a part of her campaign eight years ago, featuring a special a cappella performance by an ensemble of celebrities.
