Clemson’s Shocking Departure: What’s Next for the Tigers?

Clemson University has officially dismissed true freshman running back Marquise Henderson from its football program, as announced by the school. No specific reasons were provided for the decision, but the institution expressed its best wishes for Henderson in his future endeavors.

Henderson, a highly touted four-star recruit, ranked as the No. 161 overall player and the No. 11 running back in the 2025 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. On3’s own rankings placed him even higher at No. 152 overall and the eighth-best running back. During his high school career at Belton-Honea Path in South Carolina, he propelled his team to the state semifinals while accumulating close to 8,000 total yards and 6,369 rushing yards over 47 games, averaging an impressive 11 yards per carry.

His dismissal marks a significant change for Clemson’s upcoming recruitment class, where Henderson was the fourth-highest rated recruit. Despite this setback, Clemson remains focused on building off a strong 2024 season, which concluded with an ACC championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff. The continued development of quarterback Cade Klubnik is crucial as he enters his third season under head coach Dabo Swinney, aiming to enhance his NFL Draft prospects.

Klubnik has expressed a commitment to ongoing personal growth, reflecting on his journey and the importance of development at Clemson. As he continues to sharpen his skills with offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, he embodies the program’s philosophy of nurturing talent and striving for excellence.

Clemson has shown resilience in attracting top-tier talent and remains guided by an encouraging culture that emphasizes development and success.
