Clemson’s Dax Kilby: A Future Star with MLB Dreams

Clemson baseball commit Dax Kilby was selected by the New York Yankees as the 39th overall pick in the Competitive Balance Round A of the 2025 MLB Draft held on July 13. This marks a significant milestone, as Kilby is the first player from Clemson’s 2025 recruiting class to be drafted.

Kilby, a 6-foot-2 infielder from Newman High School in Georgia, has drawn significant attention following his impressive performance in high school baseball. Ranked as the No. 3 player in Georgia and No. 42 nationally by Perfect Game, he led his team to a state championship. In a standout season, Kilby batted an impressive .495, recording five home runs, 11 doubles, four triples, and 42 RBIs over the course of 99 at-bats. His exceptional performance earned him the title of region player of the year and MVP in the state championship series.

His talent was further underscored at the MLB draft combine, where he posted a time of 3.55 seconds in the 30-yard dash, ranking fourth among participants. Perfect Game has highly regarded him with a rating of 10/10, indicating his potential as a high draft pick or elite collegiate prospect.

While Kilby is poised to join the Yankees, he still has the option to attend Clemson for his first three years of college if the signing bonus does not meet his expectations. Should he choose to sign, he will join other recent Clemson recruits, such as Chase Harlan and Dillon Head, who opted not to play collegiately.

This development highlights not only Kilby’s personal achievement but also reflects Clemson’s growing reputation for producing top-tier baseball talent, which continues to attract attention from professional teams.

Dax Kilby’s journey is an inspiring testament to the potential of young athletes and their ability to reach new heights in their sporting careers.
