Clemson Hit by Injury Storm After SMU Loss

The Clemson Tigers faced a challenging game against the SMU Mustangs on Saturday, suffering a 35-24 defeat that left them reeling from a series of injuries. Starting quarterback Cade Klubnik was already sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained in the previous week’s triumph over Boston College. Backup quarterback Christopher Vizzina attempted to fill the void, delivering an impressive performance with 317 passing yards and three touchdowns, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to secure a win.

The situation took a turn for the worse when wide receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. left the game after a hard hit during a punt return in the third quarter. Although he exited to the locker room, it was later revealed by head coach Dabo Swinney that Wesco’s injury was serious enough to necessitate a hospital visit. Swinney expressed concern, adding that the team is keeping Wesco in their prayers but did not provide further details on the nature of the injury. Wesco had been a significant contributor this season, recording 31 receptions for 537 yards and six touchdowns.

Clemson’s troubles didn’t end there, as offensive lineman Collin Sadler was also carted off the field and seen with an air cast. Fortunately, X-rays for Sadler were reported as negative. The current state of the team is concerning as they boast a 3-4 overall record and stand at 2-3 in the ACC.

Looking ahead, the Tigers are set to host the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday, Nov. 1. As they prepare for this critical matchup, the team will need to rally together and overcome the challenges presented by injuries to key players. The support of the coaching staff and the community remains crucial during this tough time for the program, and hopes remain high for a turnaround in their season.
