CLEMSON — Clemson University’s baseball team is gearing up to kick off the 2026 season with an exciting home opener against Army on Friday. Head coach Erik Bakich has revealed his starting rotation for the opening weekend, highlighting the team’s strategy and key players.
Right-hander Aidan Knaak, a two-time first-team All-ACC selection, will take the mound on Opening Day, marking a notable milestone as he becomes the first Tiger pitcher to earn this honor in his first two seasons. Knaak’s impressive record of 14 wins and 2 losses, alongside a 3.71 ERA in 31 career starts, showcases his skill on the field. With 173.2 innings pitched and 218 strikeouts to just 58 walks, his performance has been integral to the team’s success, making him a standout player in program history.
“Planning for Aidan Knaak to start has always been a certainty,” Bakich stated, confirming the team’s confidence in their ace pitcher.
On Saturday, transfer Michael Sharman, who previously played for Tennessee, will step in as the starting pitcher. Sharman has demonstrated his potential by maintaining a 3.18 ERA over 17 appearances last season, making him a reliable asset for the Tigers. Bakich compared Sharman to former player Matt Marchal, noting Sharman’s versatility and command over his pitches.
While a starter for Sunday is yet to be named, Bakich indicated that Talan Bell could fill that role, although the flu has affected some players within the team, potentially altering those plans. Prior to this, it was announced that Drew Titsworth would not be available for the weekend.
Clemson will be hosting Army West Point for the three-game series, with the following schedule:
– Friday at 4 p.m.
– Saturday at 2 p.m.
– Sunday at Noon.
Fans can catch the action at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson, S.C., as the Tigers seek to start their season on a high note against Army. The series will also feature notable matchups in the starting pitching lineup.
The anticipation for the 2026 season is palpable, and with a strong roster and strategic plans in place, Clemson baseball is aiming to make a significant impact in the upcoming season.
