Clea Shearer, co-founder of The Home Edit, recently opened up about the support she received from Hoda Kotb during her journey with breast cancer. In an appearance on Today, Shearer shared how Kotb, a fellow breast cancer survivor, offered her comforting words at the start of her diagnosis. Shearer was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive mammary carcinoma in March 2022, which led to an intense battle involving chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries, including a double mastectomy.
Despite the challenges, Shearer was declared cancer-free in November 2022 but faced complications that required additional surgeries in 2024. Now on the road to recovery, Shearer expressed gratitude for the inspiring words from Kotb, who was diagnosed with breast cancer 18 years ago but has since remained cancer-free. Kotb encouraged Shearer by acknowledging the resilience of those who have faced similar battles, saying, “We’re still here.”
Shearer also reflected on the emotional aspects of her journey, emphasizing the importance of reconstructing her body after the procedures she underwent. While aware of the 30% chance of cancer recurrence, she remains determined and hopeful for the future, drawing strength from the ordeal she has already overcome.
Expressing how cancer has transformed her life, Shearer took away a powerful lesson about her inner strength, realizing her capacity to endure and press on through trying times.
