Fire crews successfully contained a brush fire, known as the Claro Fire, in Carlsbad that prompted evacuations earlier on Thursday. The fire ignited in a canyon near Corte Claro and Paseo Encino, close to the Carlsbad-San Marcos border, shortly before 3 p.m. It expanded to 45 acres before firefighters managed to halt its forward progression at around 5:45 p.m. As of the last update, the blaze is reported to be 60% contained, as confirmed by Cal Fire.

Firefighters are working diligently throughout the night, focusing on enhancing containment lines and addressing any remaining hot spots in the area.

An evacuation order was issued for several neighborhoods, including areas north of Camino Junipero and south of San Elijo Road, but that order has since been lifted, allowing residents to return home safely. Stagecoach Park served as a temporary evacuation center for those affected.

Road closures, including Avenida Amapola and Camino Junipero, as well as San Elijo and Rancho Santa Fe, have been lifted following the successful containment of the fire.

As investigations continue, the fire’s cause remains undetermined. The community’s cooperation and prompt action from emergency services played a critical role in managing the situation, ensuring the safety of residents in the area.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness during wildfire season and the effectiveness of community solidarity in times of crisis.
