Clarion volleyball standout defies injury to earn Class A All-State honor

CLARION, Pa. — Despite the physical challenges and emotional hurdles, Marley Kline’s determination has led her to an exceptional season with the Clarion volleyball team. The senior outside hitter faced the persistent ache of a leg injury, a painful reminder of a serious incident that occurred during a match at Cumberland Valley. However, she fought through the discomfort, continuing to contribute significantly to her team’s success with impressive performances filled with kills and digs.

This week, Kline’s resilience paid off as she was named to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class A All-State team, an honor she never anticipated would carry such deep meaning. “It means so much to me,” Kline expressed, acknowledging the hurdles along the way. “It was challenging, but pushing through it reminded me how much I love this sport.”

Throughout the season, Kline showcased her skill and strength, collaborating with junior setter Addiwyn Campbell—who also received Class A all-state recognition. Together, they propelled Clarion to the District 9 title match, where they faced defeat against Elk County Catholic before exiting the PIAA playoffs. Yet, instead of harboring any regrets, Kline viewed the season positively, stating, “I knew I needed to work for my team, and I think this was the best I have ever played. The honor feels like proof that the hard work and resilience were worth it, and I’m really grateful for the recognition.”

Looking ahead, Kline will carry this determination into her next chapter, as she prepares to play for Bloomsburg University in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) next fall.

Kline and Campbell were not the only District 9 players celebrated for their efforts this season. Isabella Brandon, a junior outside hitter from Keystone, also earned all-state honors, completing a standout season characterized by resilience through coaching changes. Under Coach Kaci Weaver, the team finished the regular season undefeated before being eliminated by Elk County Catholic in the postseason.

“I’m deeply honored that my hard work and dedication is seen and recognized by other coaches,” Brandon remarked. “It’s been a challenge with all the changes, but I’ve been able to adapt and work through it.”

Additionally, Clarion-Limestone senior setter Kaylee Smith joined the Class A all-state roster, finishing an impressive career highlighted by over 2,000 assists and a KSAC MVP season, all while recovering from a recent ankle injury. Other District 9 all-state selections included Payton Newton from Elk County Catholic and Jenna Renner of Port Allegany in Class A, along with Molly Hansloven of St. Marys in Class 2A and district selections Sonny Diehl of Clearfield and Audrey Kennis of DuBois in Class 3A.

This season’s achievements reflect not just individual accomplishments, but the collective spirit of the district’s volleyball talent, showcasing determination, perseverance, and the joy of the sport.
