Syracuse, N.Y. – Following a period of heavy snowfall that set records in Upstate New York, the region is bracing for another wave of snow on Tuesday. The upcoming storm is expected to be lighter yet more widespread compared to the intense lake effect snow that impacted the area last week.
Forecasts from the National Weather Service indicate that Syracuse can expect between 2 to 5 inches of snow by Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, regions at higher elevations, such as the Tug Hill Plateau and the Catskills, could receive more significant accumulations of 6 to 12 inches.
The snowfall is set to begin on Tuesday night in western New York, gradually moving east and north throughout the morning hours. Officials anticipate the heaviest snowfall will occur between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m., potentially complicating the morning commute for many.
As the storm subsides Tuesday afternoon and evening, the weather service noted that colder temperatures will persist throughout the week, with occasional chances for additional snow flurries.
Last week’s lake effect snowstorm had a substantial impact, bringing as much as 18 inches of snow to some areas in Upstate New York. Notably, Syracuse experienced a significant record-breaking snowfall on Friday, receiving 10.3 inches and surpassing the previous record of 8.8 inches for November 29, set back in 1958. The total accumulation for Syracuse during the three-day storm reached 13.1 inches.
