Athletes showing great promise showcased their skills at the Church College of Fiji’s inter-house athletics meet held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday. This event marks the school’s initial foray into athletics for the year, as they gear up for the zonal athletics meet and the 2026 Fiji Finals approaching in the coming weeks.

Flora Dakuiyau, the head of the physical education, music, and art and craft (PEMAC) department, expressed optimism for the upcoming athletic season and highlighted the talent among the athletes participating. “We’ve been seeing quite a few promising students and athletes for the zone, so we’re quite excited,” said Dakuiyau.

The school has experienced growth, with student enrollment rising to approximately 500, resulting in an influx of new talent. This development has stirred excitement as the preparations for the zonal meet progress. Dakuiyau noted that members of the school’s elite squad from last year’s Coca-Cola Games, which are also referred to as the Fiji Finals, have been in training since the academic year began.

“Our elite squad, comprised of students from last year’s events, has been committed to their training. Some have been working with other coaches, and we anticipate they will deliver impressive results,” she added.

In addition to athletic achievements, the school is set to commemorate its 50th anniversary this year. This milestone inspires the athletes to perform at their best, enhancing the community’s anticipation for celebrations that will reflect their hard work and dedication.

The inter-house meet concluded in the afternoon, leaving the school community hopeful and energized for the challenges ahead.
