Chubb’s Next Move: Could Houston Be His New Home?

Nick Chubb’s future in the NFL continues to be uncertain after the Cleveland Browns drafted two running backs in April, signaling a likely end to his tenure with the team. As the four-time Pro Bowler remains a free agent six weeks later, reports indicate that he and the Houston Texans are exploring mutual interest.

Currently, the Texans have a mix of running backs on their roster, including Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, Woody Marks, and Dare Ogunbowale. However, both Mixon and Pierce have faced injury challenges in the past season, which could prompt Houston to seek a reliable performer like Chubb.

At 29 years old, Chubb has faced significant struggles with injuries, having played only 10 games over the last two seasons. A severe knee injury halted his 2023 season after just two games, and he subsequently broke his foot in the following season, resulting in limited appearances.

Chubb quickly made a name for himself after being drafted by the Browns in the second round of the 2018 draft, rushing for 996 yards as a rookie and achieving over 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons thereafter. His impressive early career saw him averaging 5.2 yards per carry and 84.5 rushing yards per game in his first five seasons. However, his performance has waned in recent years, with averages dropping to 3.9 yards per carry and 50.2 yards per game over the last two seasons.

As Chubb explores this potential opportunity with the Texans, there’s optimism in the air. A fresh start in Houston may revitalize the running back’s career, allowing him to return to form as a contributing force on the field. The Texans could benefit significantly from Chubb’s talent and experience, providing him with a chance to showcase his skills once again.
