Chris Stapleton continues to generate buzz around his career, raising fresh retirement rumors with recent comments regarding his music projects. Fans of the acclaimed country artist who were hoping for new material will have to be patient, as Stapleton has made it clear that he currently has no plans to release new music in the near future.
The last time Stapleton delivered a full-length album was in 2023 with “Higher,” and while he has collaborated on a few singles such as “A Song to Sing” alongside Miranda Lambert, his output has significantly slowed. In a candid conversation on the podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard earlier this year, Stapleton hinted that the idea of early retirement is on his mind, noting, “I don’t know when I’m gonna make another record or write a new song, I’m probably not really in the mood.” His reflections indicate a pivotal moment in his career, as he balances his professional aspirations with family life.
Family commitments are playing a significant role in Stapleton’s decision to step back. He emphasized the importance of spending more time with his wife, Morgane, and their five children. “They gave up a lot for me to be sitting here with you. I owe them some things,” he remarked, suggesting that after years of focusing on his music career, he feels a strong obligation to prioritize his family.
Despite the hiatus from recording new music, Stapleton clarified that he is not ready to retire completely. He remains open to the creative process but admits he struggles to find the inspiration necessary to produce new material. “It’s important to find that. For me, fuel is the search,” Stapleton expressed.
In a more recent appearance on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, he reiterated that he is not actively working on new songs and that his focus remains on enjoying the writing and recording processes, albeit without immediate plans for either.
However, there’s still plenty for fans to look forward to as Stapleton continues to tour. He is currently on his All-American Road Show Tour, which has recently expanded with 20 new dates. The tour, which celebrates its ninth year, will feature fellow country artists Lainey Wilson and Zach Top joining him for select performances. While new music may be on hold, Stapleton’s ongoing shows provide a vibrant connection with his audience and showcase his enduring talent in live performances.
