Chongqing Targets Global Tourism Boost as Fiji Joins 2025 Travel Agent Conference

Chongqing – The 2025 Chongqing International Travel Agent Conference commenced on November 5, 2025, marking its fifth iteration since the event’s inception in 2018. This significant international gathering serves as a vital platform for the city’s burgeoning tourism industry and is organized by the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, with the support of ten local district and county governments.

Fiji stood as the guest of honor at this year’s conference, which welcomed around 400 participants, including consular officials, travel agents, government representatives, major airlines, industry associations, media, and online influencers from nearly 40 countries and regions. This diverse attendance underscores Chongqing’s growing significance in the global tourism landscape.

The opening ceremony was marked by the signing of multiple cooperation agreements between Chongqing’s cultural and tourism organizations and their international counterparts. A highlight of the event was the inauguration of the Chongqing Professional Committee for Foreign-Language Tour Guides and the appointment of five foreign individuals as “2026 Chongqing Culture and Tourism Promotion Ambassadors.”

During the conference, advancements in international medical tourism were showcased alongside newly introduced entry facilitation policies designed to bolster inbound tourism development in Chongqing.

Zhao Shiqing, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress, delivered a welcoming speech that emphasized the city’s strategic importance in China’s western development and its ambition of becoming a world-renowned cultural and tourism destination. Zhao reiterated Chongqing’s commitment to collaborating with global travel agents to unlock fresh opportunities in cross-border tourism.

Keynote speakers such as Josaia Rayawa from Tourism Fiji and Marcel Leijzer from UN Tourism praised Chongqing’s expanding tourism sector and its potential to elevate its profile as an international travel destination.

The conference also included policy briefings that revealed new measures to enhance the inbound tourism experience, covering updates on visa policies, accommodation registration, and payment systems to allow seamless experiences for international visitors.

Five international influencers were recognized for their impactful role in promoting Chongqing’s culture and tourism. Hailing from the UK, Australia, Russia, Thailand, and the US, these video bloggers have effectively connected global audiences to the rich attractions of Chongqing.

With its diverse array of activities and collaborations unveiled during the event, the conference is poised to reinforce Chongqing’s status as a prominent international tourist destination, enhancing its cultural and tourism profile on the global stage. Participants are expected to explore various sectors of the city, including international medical services, cultural institutions, and popular tourism hotspots, paving the way for future growth in inbound tourism.
