Former Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is set to embark on a new chapter in his coaching career as he takes on the role of offensive coordinator at Northwestern University. This marks Kelly’s return to both college football and the Big Ten Conference, where he previously made a significant impact during Ohio State’s national championship run in 2024.

After a challenging stint in the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he was part of Pete Carroll’s staff, Kelly was let go after just 11 games, during which the team struggled to perform offensively, ranking at or near the bottom in several key metrics. Despite this setback, Kelly remains a well-respected figure in the coaching community, known for his innovative offensive strategies.

Before his time with the Raiders, Kelly enjoyed notable success as an NFL head coach with the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers. He has also held positions as a college head coach at the University of Oregon and UCLA, where he developed a reputation for transforming offensive play.

With his extensive experience and a fresh opportunity at Northwestern, there is optimism surrounding Kelly’s ability to revitalize the team’s performance. His return to the collegiate ranks may also signal a new era of creativity and competitiveness for Northwestern football.
