The Chinese naval hospital ship, Silk Road Ark, is poised to arrive in Fiji as part of its expansive humanitarian medical mission known as Mission Harmony 2025. This mission spans across the South Pacific and Latin America, marking a significant diplomatic effort. Starting October 1, this visit will be the ship’s inaugural overseas deployment since its commissioning in 2024, aiming to provide free medical services while enhancing diplomatic relations with host nations.
During the ship’s eight-day visit to Fiji, Silk Road Ark will offer comprehensive medical services that include outpatient consultations, inpatient care, and surgeries. Equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology such as CT scanners and color Doppler ultrasound systems, the ship will extend these services to Fijians. Residents can register for medical services at the Vodafone Arena Hall (B) beginning October 2, provided they bring identification.
China’s past humanitarian efforts in Fiji, like the Bright Journey Medical Team’s visits, have bolstered diplomatic and cooperative relationships between the two countries. These missions have delivered essential medical support, including cataract surgeries, which have significantly enhanced the quality of life for numerous Fijians.
