China’s Silk Road Ark Arrives in Fiji for Eight-Day Free Medical Mission

The Chinese naval hospital ship, Silk Road Ark, is set to arrive in Fiji as part of its extensive humanitarian medical mission across the South Pacific and Latin America under Mission Harmony 2025. This visit, beginning on October 1, marks the ship’s first overseas deployment since its commissioning in 2024, aiming to offer free medical services and strengthen ties between China and the host nations.

During its eight-day stay in Fiji, Silk Road Ark will provide a wide range of medical services, including outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and surgeries, with advanced medical equipment such as CT scanners and color Doppler ultrasound systems on board. These services are available to Fijians who can register at the Vodafone Arena Hall (B) starting October 2, with identification required.

The recent history of China’s humanitarian medical efforts in Fiji, such as the visits of the Bright Journey Medical Team, has strengthened diplomatic and cooperative relations between the two countries. These missions have provided crucial medical support, including cataract surgeries that have significantly improved the quality of life for many Fijians. Such efforts underscore the mutually beneficial cooperation between the nations in fields like healthcare, infrastructure, and education, fostering a hopeful outlook for continued partnership and progress.

This collaborative spirit not only aids in addressing Fiji’s healthcare needs but also enriches bilateral relations, highlighting the positive impact of such international missions. By offering free medical services, the Silk Road Ark exemplifies China’s commitment to humanitarian assistance, further solidifying the ties that promise ongoing development and mutual growth between China and Fiji.
