On January 3, 2025, Zhang Run, Director-General of the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs at China’s Foreign Ministry, convened a meeting with diplomatic representatives from Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries to China.
In his address, Zhang highlighted the successful visit of President Xi Jinping to Latin America in November of the previous year, emphasizing its role in igniting a “Latin America moment” within global governance, aided by Chinese insights. He noted that the establishment of a China-LAC community with a shared future continues to grow, with current conditions for developing this relationship being exceptionally favorable.
Looking ahead, Zhang expressed China’s commitment to collaborating with LAC nations, highlighting the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Forum of China and Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) as a pivotal moment to enhance the China-CELAC Forum. He stressed the importance of advancing substantive high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to deliver greater benefits to the populations of both regions.
Diplomatic envoys from the LAC region praised China’s contributions toward fostering cooperation and sustainable development within their countries.
