OpenAI’s AI chatbot ChatGPT faced a significant outage on Tuesday, impacting numerous users worldwide. Outage monitoring platform Downdetector reported that issues began to escalate shortly after 2:45 PM IST in India, with over 500 users indicating difficulties in accessing the service.

In India, complaints primarily centered around ChatGPT’s core functionality, which accounted for 82% of the reports. Meanwhile, 14% reported issues with the mobile application, and 4% cited API integration problems. The outage extended to the United States, where more than 900 users noted similar troubles starting at around 2:49 PM IST. Here, 93% experienced problems with ChatGPT, while 6% struggled with the app, and 1% had login issues.

OpenAI’s Status page has recognized the ongoing service disruptions, confirming complications across various platforms, including ChatGPT, its APIs, and Sora. The company indicated, “Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services. We are continuing to investigate this issue.”

As of now, OpenAI has not outlined a timeline for resolving the issues and has yet to provide clarity on the underlying cause of the outage. Users have taken to social media to express their disappointment, as many depend on ChatGPT for professional, educational, and personal purposes.

Overall, it’s clear that while technical difficulties can be frustrating, they also highlight the widespread reliance on technology in our daily lives. The community is hopeful that OpenAI will quickly resolve the situation, restoring access to an essential tool for many.
