The court will announce its decision tomorrow regarding Charlie Charters’ request to travel abroad for work. This comes after the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) raised objections to Charters’ bid to amend his bail conditions.
During today’s court proceedings, FICAC’s counsel highlighted concerns over the likelihood of Charters fleeing the country while overseas, particularly given that he possesses dual passports. They argued that any measures, such as sureties or a cash bond, would not adequately address the risk of him not returning.
Charters faces charges from FICAC on two counts of aiding and abetting under the Crimes Act of 2009. The outcome of the court’s ruling will be closely monitored as it could set significant precedents regarding bail conditions in similar cases.
