Singer-songwriter and producer Charlie Puth has been named Chief Music Officer of the AI music-making startup Moises, a platform that made waves last year by bringing the vocals of late superstar Whitney Houston back to life for a live concert experience. This appointment underscores Puth’s commitment to integrating advanced technology into the creative process.

Moises has gained considerable traction, boasting over 70 million users worldwide and supporting 33 languages, thanks in part to its $52 million in venture funding. The company operates a global team based in the United States, Brazil, and Europe.

The Moises platform differentiates itself by not solely relying on prompt-based AI music tools; instead, it focuses on developing professional-grade tools that enable musicians to practice, perform, and create their music. Puth will play an instrumental role in guiding the creative and product direction of Moises, infusing the platform with insights from a working artist’s perspective.

The company aims to make high-quality music workflows accessible to artists of all levels, allowing them to isolate vocals, identify chords, and experiment with arrangements seamlessly. Puth emphasized the importance of AI in enhancing the creative process, stating, “AI, when done right, isn’t here to replace musicians. It’s here to help artists learn, explore, and bring their ideas to life.”

Supporting this sentiment, Geraldo Ramos, CEO of Moises, commented on the evolving relationship between musicianship and technology, noting that while AI represents a new frontier, it should serve to amplify human creativity rather than replace it. Ramos expressed a shared vision of utilizing AI as a tool to enhance the artistic process rather than dictate it.

To celebrate the partnership, Puth and Moises initiated a global remix competition linked to Super Bowl LX, where Puth recently performed the national anthem. The “Moises Jam Session” invites musicians and fans to remix or cover Puth’s new song “Beat Yourself Up,” the lead single from his forthcoming album, “Whatever’s Clever!” Participants can access the song’s individual stems through the app, providing a unique opportunity to explore the music’s components.

Puth will individually review the submitted remixes and covers, with a prize pool totaling $100,000 to be awarded to winners and finalists, which includes signed merchandise and a backstage pass to his concert at Madison Square Garden on May 29.

Moises, with its innovative approach to music creation and collaboration with a well-known artist like Puth, aims to redefine how musicians engage with technology, fostering a creative synergy that elevates the art form.
