Charli XCX Takes on New Comedy Role: What’s Next?

Charli XCX is expanding her acting pursuits with a new role. The singer, who is enjoying significant success following the release of her album “Brat” in June, will make a guest appearance in Benito Skinner’s upcoming comedy series “Overcompensating.” Alongside her acting contribution, she is set to produce original music for the show.

In addition to her role in “Overcompensating,” Charli XCX will also feature in three films: the Gregg Araki thriller “I Want Your Sex” starring Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman; the Daniel Goldhaber remake of the 1978 movie “Faces of Death” with Barbie Ferreira; and Julia Jackman’s adaptation of the graphic novel “100 Nights of Hero,” which stars Emma Corrin and Maika Monroe.

The cast of “Overcompensating” includes Wally Baram, Mary Beth Barone, Adam DiMarco, and Rish Shah as series regulars. The show will also see recurring appearances from Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, Kaia Gerber, Julia Shiplett, Tommy Do, Alexandra Beaton, Claire Qute, Elias Azimi, and Maddie Phillips.

According to the official description, “Overcompensating” is a college ensemble comedy that follows the chaotic journey of Benny (Skinner), a closeted former football player and homecoming king, as he befriends Carmen (Baram), a high school outsider determined to fit in. With support from Benny’s older sister (Barone) and her campus-legend boyfriend (DiMarco), the duo navigates a series of humorous mishaps involving questionable hookups, flavored vodka, and fake IDs. The show promises to deliver a deeply funny and personal exploration of how individuals overcompensate while seeking their true selves.
