Charli XCX Joins Benito Skinner’s Amazon Comedy, Overcompensating!

Charli XCX will not only be supplying the original music for Benito Skinner’s upcoming Amazon comedy series, Overcompensating, but she will also be making a guest appearance on the show. Skinner revealed her involvement on his Instagram, which was later confirmed by Amazon, although details about her character have yet to be disclosed.

Overcompensating, created by Skinner and inspired by his own life experiences, is a comedic look at college life. It follows the chaotic journey of Benny, played by Skinner, a closeted former football player and homecoming king who befriends Carmen, a high school outsider determined to fit in. With support from Benny’s older sister and her well-known boyfriend, the duo navigates a series of awkward encounters, flavored vodka, and fake identities. The series is expected to be both humorous and deeply personal, addressing the various ways individuals attempt to overcompensate while discovering their true identities.

Skinner serves as the writer and executive producer, alongside Hill, Matt Dines, and Ali Goodwin from Strong Baby. Charli XCX will take on the role of executive music producer for the project, which will be available for streaming on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories internationally.

This announcement comes on the heels of the June release of Charli XCX’s sixth studio album, Brat. In addition to her music career, she will co-star with Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman in the thriller I Want Your Sex, directed by Gregg Araki. She is also co-executive producing the score for the upcoming A24 film, Mother Mary, directed by David Lowery. Charli XCX contributed the song “Speed Drive” to the Barbie soundtrack last year and has written tracks for films like The Fault in Our Stars and Bodies Bodies Bodies. She is represented by CAA, Good World, and Project Gold.
