Charli XCX is making a splash on Benito Skinner’s new Prime Video series, Overcompensating. The comedian, known as Benny Drama, is moving from a Halloween-themed bridal party to a football team for his latest project.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Skinner is both creating and starring in the comedy, which is in development with Amazon Prime. The show is produced by A24 and Jonah Hill’s Strong Baby Productions and centers around an Idaho football player who struggles with his sexuality and attempts to overcompensate for his true self.

Skinner has enlisted the help of his close friend Charli XCX, who previously made a cameo in her music video for “New Shapes.” Charli will serve as an executive producer and is expected to contribute music for the series. If it moves forward, Scott King from Harlem will take on the role of showrunner.

As of October 2, 2024, Skinner revealed on Instagram that filming for the first season has been completed, with the series confirmed for Prime Video. He hinted at more collaboration with Charli XCX, saying, “Oh and if you thought @charli_xcx was only doing the music…” Deadline later confirmed that Charli will also be guest-starring in the series while providing the soundtrack. In addition to this project, Charli has a busy schedule ahead, including roles in a remake of Faces of Death and Gregg Araki’s film I Want Your Sex alongside Cooper Hoffman and Olivia Wilde.
