Charley Hull’s Shocking Withdrawal: What Happened on the Course?

British golfer Charley Hull, ranked No. 19 in the world, had to withdraw from the Amundi Evian Championship in Évian-les-Bains, France, on Thursday, July 10, after experiencing two collapses during her first round. The prestigious tournament is one of the five major championships on the LPGA Tour.

Hull, playing alongside Ruoning Yin and Haeran Ryu, showed signs of distress on the third hole, ultimately sitting down near a fairway bunker. Her situation deteriorated before her tee shot on hole No. 4, where she collapsed on the grass and required immediate medical assistance. Despite being able to take her tee shot shortly after, Hull fell again and was subsequently transported off the golf course on a motorized cart equipped with a flatbed stretcher.

Prior to her withdrawal, Hull was performing well, posting 1-under through 12 holes after beginning her round on the back nine. The Amundi Evian Championship is set to continue through Sunday, July 13, with live coverage provided by Golf Channel each day.

This incident brings to light the physical demands placed on professional athletes, highlighting the importance of health and safety during competitions. Fans and fellow competitors hope for a speedy recovery for Hull as she focuses on her health. The golf community is rallying around her, wishing her a return to form soon.
